My MA degree is in Geography and Contemporary European studies (2:1) and was obtained at the University of Dundee (1993)  after an earlier career as a berry farmer in eastern Scotland.

I am a regular keynote speaker at conferences at home and abroad and have spoken in Alaska, The UK, Norway, Israel, Belgium, Germany and Spain to audiences up to 1000.

With my wife Charlotte (a professional chocolatier) I am co-director of Food and Photography Retreats Ltd.

As well as my work with Charlotte on Food and Photography Retreats, I still write and publish my work in magazines, design and undertake commissioned photography.

I was born what Prof. Howard Gardner calls, “Nature Smart”. I’m proud father of Eliot and Iona and step-dad of Emily.
