Scottish Tree of the Year work
July 16th, 2014. Today I joined a panel of distinguished judges (including: SWT Chairman, Robin Harper; journalist Jim Crumley; Lord Wheatley, QC; Dr Bob Macintosh, head of Forestry Commission Scotland; and Carol Evans, Director of Woodland Trust, Scotland) to look at the candidates for the title, Tree of the Year. We were hosted by the Woodland Trust Scotland whose initiative this is.
My brief is to photograph the shortlisted trees with their advocates and conduct recorded interviews. The pictures will be used to support the initiative, including the winning tree’s entry into European Tree of the Year. The winning tree, elected by popular vote, will be announced at a reception at the Scottish Parliament on 30th October. Make sure you enter YOUR favourite Scottish tree next year: just remember that it should have local cultural significance and a great story to go with it.
